Excellent site and superb situation by the river. Very welcoming and helpful staff, Nicole the owner and Christophe always on hand for everything. Situation is on the Stevenson Trail where you can enjoy a 5 km walk into nearby Florac with fabulous scenery along the way. Small but excellent restaurant, very clean facilities all in all everything done with care in a very charming way. A site to return to with no hesitation.
We have been travelling around Europe for over year and stayed in well over 50 campsites in 15 different countries; this is our favourite! It is in the most beautiful setting, we camped right next to the river and saw a beaver pass by the first night. It’s a 2 star and we learned that is how it will stay as to get 4 stars you need security fences etc. which would ruin the place, there was no fence between us and the river which is just how we like it. As well as the incredible natural beauty of the site and the wild swimming opportunities the owner, Nicole, is so lovely. She speaks perfect English (American) as well as German and French and has a great sense of humour and was so helpful with us giving us local knowledge regarding the most amazing rural beauty I think we have ever seen in the area around the George du Tarn. The facilities do what they need to do and are clean. This is a must visit site for nature lovers! The local town of Florac is fantastic too if you like your locals leftfield and hippified.

Visited in Campervan. A very peaceful site with the only noise being the rushing water of the Tarn. There are plenty of good walks direct from the site. Lots of wildlife about and we spent several hours on the site watching the beavers, that had a lodge on the opposite bank of the river. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. Facilities are being updated and clean, with plentiful hot water. Highly recommended.
This was one of the few campsites still open in the area in October. We were warmly welcomed by site-owner Nicole, a very friendly, helpful lady - full of information in any of the (few) languages that my wife and I could muster! Lovely area, with the RL Stevenson Way leading right into Florac. This charming small town - we visited on market day - reminded us of our previous home near Totnes, Devon, UK - full of interesting individuals, long-haired drop-outs,many 'alternative types', dogs, children, etc. All very delightful!!
we visited site first week in september. weather was good. reception was excellent choose your own pitch very good area, did not stay long enough. they are still upgrading site we will return asap. Alan Parish
We chose this site from the ACSI description in the handbook. Unfortunately, it was a grey, cold and wet August day and so we probably didn't see the site at its best. Even so, the toilet block was dirty (not just recent mud), old and not enough hot water. In summary, it may be passable on a hot Summers day but it is in desperate need of updating.
I loved being next to the RLS route and walked into Florac the next day (about 40 minutes).
Nothing to tempt us back again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Camping Chantemerle located on the bank of the river Tarn and with the Stevenson walking trail running through it. The owners are very friendly and helpful and the campsite and facilities are kept spotlessly clean. The site is very well situated with plenty of good walking in the surrounding area and is also good base for exploring the Gorges du Tarn, Mont Lozère and the Causse Mejean. We can thoroughly recommend this campsite
We loved this site and would go back again. The owners are a lovely American/German lady who is married to a Frenchman. She speaks several languages fluently and is more than hospitable and friendly. She recommended things to see in the area and routes to take. This site is in a lesser known area of France that has lots to offer in terms of spectacular scenery, river gorges, walking routes and caves. The site is well located for exploring the Cevennes area and the Stevenson walking trail runs along the river past the reception. The site is on the banks of the beautiful and lively Tarn river which is very scenic and has beavers. It is peaceful with good sized grassy plots, trees for shade but also sunshine. We had a pear tree near our motorhome dropping the odd delicious pear every now and again. The site is very dog friendly and the owners were more than happy to allow our dog with us when we ate in the onsite restaurant. This served lovely food at good prices and a lovely ambiance. We found the portions big and the chef excellent, cooking steak as only the French can do. Locals came to eat there during our stay, always a good recommendation. This is only a 2 star site because the toilet block probably needs updating. However it was very clean, the showers were hot and spacious, dishwashing and washing machine facilities were all available. I would definitely recommend this as an area to visit and a site to come to.
This such a lovely place to be that we hope to return later this year to rent one of their lovely chalets - even though it rained practically the whole time we were there!! There was always the river and the birds to watch when we were stuck in our van. (Although we did miss seeing the beavers!) And the food in the restaurant was a real treat. The owners were helpful in every way. It is also an ideal area for walkers with the Stevenson trail and other river and forest walks. Plus the interesting church in Bedoues.
